Chamber Board Announces Opposition to Proposed Pension Framework

FULL STATEMENT

CHAMBER'S PUBLIC POLICY SURVEY RESULTS

In recent weeks a framework was released by Governor Matt Bevin, Senate President Robert Stivers, and former Speaker of the House Jeff Hoover to address our state's pension crisis. The bill proposes 500+ pages of changes to Kentucky's failing pension system. The Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has engaged in discussions with our local business community, elected officials, school administrators, and community members in regards to the proposed plan.

The Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted unanimously to oppose the proposed plan while offering alternatives that share the burden of a sustainable solution. The Chamber encourages the Governor, Speaker of the House, and Senate President to reconsider and examine the following areas as alternatives to lessen the potential negative impact on small rural communities, like Murray and Calloway County.

The Murray-Calloway County Chamber is the region's second-largest business advocacy organization and 9th largest in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. It is governed by a 20-member volunteer Board of Directors and supported by community investors.
