Denise Finley had to have a homemade sign for her first ever protest rally.
“I went to buy all these materials, and when I got to the check out, the woman asked, ‘Are you having a birthday party?’” the former Lexington teacher said with a big grin.
“I said, ‘No, I’m going to go to Frankfort to try to keep my pension.’”
Finley spent 37 years in classrooms before retiring in June. She was among hundreds of teachers, school administrators, first responders, state workers, union members and others who converged on the Capitol steps Monday afternoon in Frankfort at the United We Stand Rally. Their aim? Stop Senate Bill 1.
